چکیده
(RECEIVED FOR PUBLICATION NOVEMBER 16, 1950) The following observations are concerned with the survival of erythrocytes from three polycythaemic patients transfused into normal recipients and estimated by the method of differential agglutination. The donors were (1) a man aged 60, known to be suffering from polycythaemia vera for seven years. A typical blood count at one time in July, 1949, gave R.B.C. 11.6 million, W.B.C. 19,000, Hb 112% (Haldane 100% =14.8 g.%), and a haematocrit of 76; (2) a man aged 34, first seen in January, 1949, with the follow0oo

متن کاملSerum Epo in Polycythaemia and after Treatment
Serum erythropoietin (S-Epo) was measured with a radiommunoassay method in 36 patients with polycythaemia vera, 17 patients with secondary polycythaemia and 14 patients with relative polycythaemia. The diagnoses were made without the aid of the S-Epo values. It was found that Sment to normal haematocrit levels. the S-Epo levels remained subnormal in most of the polycythaemia vera patients even ...
متن کاملRole of erythrocytes and platelets in the hypercoagulable status in polycythemia vera through phosphatidylserine exposure and microparticle generation.
The development of thrombosis in polycythaemia vera (PV) involves multifactorial processes including pathological activation of blood cells. Release of microparticles (MPs) by activated cells in diseases is associated with thrombotic risk, but relatively few data are available in PV. The aim of the present study was to investigate the increase in MP release and exposure of phosphatidylserine (P...
متن کاملReno-vascular disease in polycythaemia rubra vera.
Hypertension and polycythaemia rubra vera commonly occur in the same patient. This is regarded as coincidence and the hypertension does not respond to correction of polycythaemia. We report a case of renal artery stenosis occurring simultaneously with polycythaemia rubra vera and suggest that renovascular occlusive disease should be excluded in such patients with refractory hypertension.

The diagnosis of polycythaemia vera (PV) has been established upon sets of clinical criteria, which require the presence of absolute erythrocytosis (AE). The most recent clinical criteria for PV, published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2001, also required AE, and stated that the measured red cell mass (RCM) could be replaced by a surrogate marker for AE; a haemoglobin (Hb) value of ...
